Main Bazaar

Adjacent to the Kuching Waterfront, the Main Bazaar is the oldest street in the city of Kuching.  It has some excellent examples of Chinese shop house architecture, which is occupied by the same family for generations. Fort Margherita

The fort was built in 1879 to guard Kuching’s river banks from bandits. In the past, a canon shot was fired from the fort every evening to mark the end of the administration work day. It was named after Charles Brooke’s wife, Ranee Margaret, a unique landmark along the Sarawak River. Travelers can take a Penambang water taxi to Fort Margherita from numerous waterfront jetties on the south bank.
